A painting of my dear friend Brandon, completed from life over a few weeks together in my studio. I take much inspiration from Dutch and Italian portraiture from the Baroque and Renaissance. Working from observation is an important aspect of my art form. I am interested in painting and drawing as a record of experiences had, and not simply appearances captured. The story of the light and thought behind a gaze are both the subject of this painting, and the vehicles through which I aim to communicate something universal and timeless.
