When we paint outdoors, we do not have enough time to draw the details carefully. This urges our eyes to be keener and to search for forms faster, and it forces that we depict the scene with more simplified expressions, providing the best chance to practice the final and hardest stage of making a watercolor painting — to know the proper time to stop.
